Note 1. The MEC (Master Executive Council) is made up of the the LEC's. The LEC's are made up of the Captain, First Officer, Second Officer (ANC Only), and Secretary/Treasure Representatives from each Base. Secretary/Treasure are non-voting Positions. Additionally, (as strange as it seems) the MEC Chairman, MEC Vice Chairman and MEC Secretary/Treasure do not vote. Even though these are considered the highest positions in the Union, they do not vote. They do have in put but they are supposed to take their direction from the MEC (combined LEC's).

Note 2. Committee Chairman terms of office are connected the MEC Chairman's term in office. The current MEC Chairman (Dave Stevens) took office after the recall of the previous Chairman. The MEC Chairman office is up for election during this cycle and is elected by the MEC. If the person holding that office changes, then all the Committee Chairmanships will be subject to change.

Current Committees are:

Note 3. One of the questions most pilot have about union work is How much time and effort does it take? ALPAWatch came up with this 1 To 5 Scale to try and give pilots some idea of what they might be getting into if they accept one of these positions. Like most things, this idea turned out to be more difficult to explain than you might think. For example, the Chairman of the Strike Preparedness Committee might be a level 3 but move to a level 5 a during the late stages of contract negotiations. Similarly, a Position on the Strike Preparedness Committee might be a 1 but move up to a 3-4 during the late stages of contract negotiations. Most of these Committee Chairman and Committee Positions fluctuate depending on the nature of current events.

An Index of 5 is just about a full time job. Many level 5's are on full time flight pay loss. However, some pilots holding a level 5 position still fly a full or near full schedule. An Index of 3 will attend at least one meeting a month. An Index of 1 might only involve taking some phone calls and finding answers for pilots questions.
